LINCOLN, Calif. – Heading into their series finale with the Oregon Tech Owls, Jessup had to face two opponents, as mother nature gave both teams quite the battle. After a high-scoring game one resulted in a loss, Jessup looked to get the split, but the sweeping rain had other ideas.
Game two of Saturday's doubleheader was called off midway through the top of the second. At the time of cancellation, Jessup was trailing 6-3 with one out and the bases loaded. However, in a seven-inning game such as this, four complete innings are needed for the game to be official.
As it stands, the game is incomplete. Should the two teams find the time and date to meet up, the contest could resume from the postponement point. But, should there not be a reuniting between the Owls and Warriors, all stats from the game are wiped as if nothing ever happened.
But what did happen was game one, an 11-5 loss for Jessup that dropped them to 2-4.
The losing pitcher of game one was
Charlie Perkins, who fell to 0-2. Perkins allowed five runs on seven hits over three innings of work.
Jason Riviello would spell him in relief, tossing the next 3.2 innings.
Oregon Tech jumped to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first, but the Warriors did not quiver. A bases-loaded balk sent Drew Andrews home. The game would tie at two as
Dirk Ryan grounded out, plating Brennan Rozell.
Andrews would touch home plate again in the third as he blasted his first home run with the Warriors, a solo shot that came after the Owls took a 5-2 lead.
The Warriors would get within one in the fifth, thanks to a bases-loaded walk this time.
Nicholas Hadd was the beneficiary of the RBI, setting the score at 6-5. But then came the Owls, pulling away with big hit after big hit.
A three-run blast in the ninth was ultimately the final nail in this one, as Jessup tried to mount a comeback, but they stranded the bases loaded in the ninth. Stranding runners was an unfortunate trend, as Jessup left 13 runners on base.
Once the rain subsides, Jessup will get back to work this week as they prepare for the final stretch of their ten-game homestand.
Bushnell will be in town next weekend, beginning a three-game series on Friday. Once the series wraps up, Jessup will hit the road for five straight away from McBean Park.
