ROCKLIN, Calif. – On another cold and rainy day in Rocklin, Jessup returned to the diamond as they continued their homestand against OUAZ. Looking to beat the incoming rain, only one game could be played Saturday as Jessup's pitcher stole the show in a shutout victory.
Right-hander
Terra Goetz, coming off a rough outing, was handed the ball to start game one. Goetz produced a polar opposite outing from Thursday in Ripon, tossing five shutout innings before head coach
Brie Campbell went to the bullpen.
Runs weren't the only column Goetz held OUAZ to a zero in. The righty was also working on a no-hitter, as she struck out five while allowing three free passes. She improves her record to 4-2 with the win.
It was almost a five-inning no-hitter for the Warriors, as Jessup led 7-0 with two runners in scoring position and two out in the fifth. One more run and the game would have been called, but OUAZ got
Karlie Bilbrey to ground out and extend the ballgame.
Katie Blankenheim entered the game in relief to start the sixth. She pitched the final two innings, allowing a pair of base hits while striking out three.
The Warriors got on the board in the third, thanks to a two-run double from
Sam Lorge. Lorge would later come home on an infield single from
Aaliyah Pineda, as the slow dribbler stopped thanks to the wet playing conditions. Pineda beat the throw, and Lorge wisely did not stop running as she rounded third and scored.
Jessup tacked on four in the fifth, the first coming off a bases-loaded walk to
Kaylee Winn. A wild pitch sent the next run home, and two more scored on a dropped fly ball.
Olivia Dominguez went 3-for-4 in the win, legging out three bunt singles. She also scored twice.
Lexi Watson also went 3-for-4, while Lorge finished 2-for-4.
One game down, and in came the rain. The two teams tried to start game two as fast as possible, but mother nature would not stop the downpour.
Serena Navarrete started game two and had trouble gripping the wet softball, walking two before recording a two-out strikeout to end a scoreless first inning.
That's where the day came to an end, as rather than duplicate Thursday's rain-filled affair, the two teams decided to resume the game at a later date, with Watson due up to start the bottom of the first.
No make-up date has been confirmed, but the Warriors will be in Arizona from March 31 – April 1.
Next on the schedule for Jessup is a trip to Atherton on Tuesday. The Warriors and Oaks are scheduled to hit the field at 1 p.m. for a doubleheader on Wunderlich Field.
