Blankenheim and Lorge Take Home GSAC Player of the Week Honors

Blankenheim allowed just one run over nine innings in the circle; Lorge drove in four runs, totaling three extra-base hits

ROCKLIN, Calif. – The Warriors made the most of an ever-changing schedule over the weekend, taking two of three before rain halted the fourth game. On the heels of the first conference weekend of the season, two Warriors from the All-GSAC team a season ago are being honored as GSAC Player of the Week.

Following a season in which Jessup took home GSAC Player of the Week honors five times, Monday marks the first of the season for Jessup in this category. After a vote Monday afternoon to select the recipients, Jessup's Katie Blankenheim and Sam Lorge take home the honors.

Blankenheim logged nine innings in the circle last week, allowing just one run on four hits. The fourth-year player totaled four strikeouts and issued four walks as Jessup won both games she appeared in.

Friday's victory over Arizona Christian was a vintage performance out of the All-GSAC pitcher from a season ago. Blankenheim registered her second complete game of the season, improving her record to 4-4. The next day against OUAZ, Blankenheim tossed two scoreless innings in relief of Terra Goetz.

Lorge had a big weekend as well, driving in at least one run in all three games. Jessup's third baseman finished the weekend 4-for-9 with a home run, two doubles, four RBI, and four runs scored.

Her RBI double started the scoring for Jessup in Thursday's rain-delayed game in Ripon. One day later, Lorge started the scoring again with a solo home run in the bottom of the first. The trend continued on Saturday when Lorge drove in two with her third-inning double, again to start the scoring for the Warriors.

Jessup, now 13-7 this season, has won six of their last seven games.

The Warriors were scheduled to next hit the field tomorrow as a doubleheader with Menlo was on the schedule. But with more rain looming in Northern California, the series has been pushed back to April 18.

So now the Warriors must shift their focus to the No. 9 ranked Raiders of Southern Oregon University. SOU will visit Lincoln on Friday for a doubleheader at Foskett Regional Park. Jessup then welcomes San Diego Christian to town on Saturday, with first pitch being scheduled for noon.
