SAN RAFAEL, Calif. — In a pair of gritty PacWest contests, the Warriors completed a thrilling comeback and found their edge during a doubleheader sweep of the Dominican University Penguins. Jessup took the first game 5–4 and followed up with a 2–1 victory in game two, moving to 13–9 in a tight PacWest race and 18–15 overall.
Head coach Brie Campbell noted that the team knew exactly what was at stake heading into the day. She emphasized that their goal was simple: protect the momentum from the previous day's win and continue climbing in an ultra-competitive conference standings.
The Warriors found themselves in an early hole during game one as the Penguins put together two disciplined innings to take a 4–0 lead. Jessup finally found a spark in the late innings when Aaliyah Tinoco drove in Maddy Ybarra with an RBI single to put the Warriors on the board.
Heading into the top of the seventh trailing by three, the Warriors loaded the bases to put intense pressure on Dominican. Maliyah Lawson played the hero, electrifying the squad with a go-ahead grand slam to catapult Jessup into a 5–4 lead.
Reliever Evangelina Chavarria then shut the door in the bottom of the seventh to seal the comeback victory. The pitching duo of Korrie Almond, who threw five innings, and Chavarria, who handled the final two, combined for the winning effort.
Campbell praised the team's "never quit" mindset, noting that the momentum shifted with a single swing. She credited the victory not just to Lawson's clutch execution, but to the gritty at-bats from the entire lineup that set the table for the big moment.
Game two followed a similar defensive script. Trailing 1–0, Maddy Ybarra blasted a solo home run to left field to tie the game. Later in the seventh, with the speed of Alexis Vega on the bases, Lawson continued her hot streak by delivering a clutch RBI single to score Vega and give Jessup the lead. With the pressure mounting, Nohemi Livingston finished what she started by completing a seven-inning gem to shut down the host squad and secure the weekend sweep.
Offensively, Lawson led the charge by going 5-for-8 on the day with 5 RBIs. Maddy Ybarra also had a strong showing, going 3-for-6 with a solo home run, while catcher Kali Garcia hit .500 on the day.
Reflecting on the second game, Campbell observed that the team chipped away one run at a time. She highlighted Livingston's veteran poise in the circle, noting that despite pressure on the basepaths, the pitcher battled through a deep count to get a monumental strikeout and seal the sweep.
The Warriors now prepare to return home to Lincoln, California, to host Menlo College on April 4th.
