LINCOLN, Calif. – Fresh off two losses to the No. 9 ranked team in the country yesterday, the Warriors got back on the diamond Saturday against a GSAC foe. Led by some clutch hitting from the heart of the order, Jessup swept the day as they move to 15-8 on the year.
The Warriors have now taken seven straight against San Diego Christian, dating back to April 26, 2021. Jessup has also been victorious in 20 of the last 22 meetings.
Game one, a 10-1 victory for the Warriors, was highlighted by the big bat of
Sam Lorge. Entering the day leading the GSAC in home runs, Lorge adds two more to her tally, giving her seven on the season.
Lorge left the yard in the fourth, a solo shot. She added a second solo homer in the sixth.
Jessup scored first in the bottom of the first thanks to a two-run single from
Aaliyah Pineda. Pineda would end up having a huge day as she added four more RBI in game two. On the day, Pineda went 4-for-6 with six RBI.
Pineda was a hard out all weekend as the Jessup backstop went 9-for-12 at the dish, adding seven RBI.
"I was very pleased with our outing at the plate today as coach (
Ryan Stevens) spoke about having a confident approach today, and they did just that," said head coach
Brie Campbell. "Across both games, we saw many great at-bats with awesome contact throughout the lineup."
Terra Goetz started game one, allowing one run over six innings of work. Goetz has been rock solid in her last three outings, allowing just one run on three hits over 13 innings in the circle.
Katie Blankenheim got the start in game two, a 7-1 victory for the Warriors. Blankenheim tossed five shutout frames, allowing three hits with four strikeouts.
Bella MacFarlane allowed a run on four hits over two innings in relief.
Campbell touched on her pitching staff, adding, "The defense continues to be our strong suit, starting in the circle and expanding from there. Can't say enough about Terra and Katie working hard to keep us ahead."
After another two-run single in the first from Pineda, Jessup added to their scoring when
Karlie Bilbrey stole home.
Kaylee Winn added two runs in the fifth on a two-run double. The rally continued with big hits from Sarag Giles and Pineda.
Jessup improves to 4-1 in conference play with the Saturday sweep.
On the GSAC, Campbell added, "The conference is competitive, and we will continue to keep our course with taking each opponent as they come, next up great competition in Vanguard and Hope on the road for our first series away."
Jessup will hit the road next week for a pair of rematches from the GSAC Tournament a season ago. On Friday, Jessup will take on Vanguard, the team they beat in the GSAC Championship Game last season. The road trip then continues at Hope International on Saturday.
