Warriors Drop Fifth and Sixth Straight in Losses to Westmont

Lopez pieced together four hits across both games; Jessup will look to end Westmont’s 17-game win streak tomorrow

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – Looking to wash away the bad taste of last weekend's sweep, the Warriors again boarded a bus for Southern California, this time to face off with Westmont. With a top-15 team on the schedule for the second week in a row, the results are eerily similar, as Jessup falls victim to two more losses.

For the Warriors, now losers of six straight, they sit at 12-17-1 overall. Jessup's 6-10-1 record in GSAC play puts them seventh in the conference standings.

The Warriors managed to muster up just two hits in game one of Friday's doubleheader, both coming off the bat of Chris Lopez. Lopez reached on a double and later singled. He also scored on Chris Cook's groundout in the top of the seventh.

Cook's RBI was the only one in the game, as Westmont took the opener 13-1.

Charlie Perkins made the start in game one, lasting five innings before turning the mound over to Mason Azevedo and Richard Vidal. Perkins allowed 11 runs on ten hits, striking out two while walking three.

Game two saw the Warriors piece together some more run support, starting in the second as Kevin Gutierrez trotted home on a balk. But the Westmont bats were still hot as they scored in four of their six turns to bat, putting 13 runs total on the board.

Lopez again provided some offensive life for the Warriors in game two, going 2-for-4 with an RBI. Kayde Iranon hit Jessup's lone home run of the day, a two-run shot in the sixth that cut the scoreline to 13-4.

Westmont took the game 13-5.

On the mound was left-hander Max Moreno. Moreno got tagged for eight runs on eight hits over his four innings of work. Caleb Markwith and Jason Riviello saw time out of the bullpen.

Westmont moves to 27-5 with the two victories. The Warriors of Santa Barbara, coming off a trip to the AVISTA-NAIA Baseball World Series a season ago, are now winners of 17 in a row.

Jessup will look to end two streaks tomorrow as the series resumes at 11 a.m.
