IRVINE, Calif. – With the postseason finally here, selections for the All-GSAC team have been announced by the conference office. After securing a spot in the postseason on the final day of the regular season, two Warriors can add the distinction of All-GSAC member to their resume.
Earning a spot on the All-Conference roster are Jessup's two corner infielders,
Sam Lorge and
Sarah Giles.
A junior, Lorge earns her third selection to the All-GSAC team. The third baseman led the GSAC in the regular season with ten home runs, adding 35 RBI and 12 doubles while posting a .372 batting average. Lorge added 39 runs scored, 11 more than her next closest teammate.
Lorge was second on the team with 45 base hits and tied for the team lead with 14 multi-hit games. Ten times throughout the season, Lorge recorded multiple RBI in a game, including two four-RBI games.
It's the third All-GSAC selection for Lorge, who is in her third season with the team. Her freshman season saw Lorge earn an All-GSAC selection as a utility player, moving to back-to-back selections as a third baseman in the last two campaigns. Lorge was also an NFCA All-American in 2022.
For Giles, in her first season with Jessup, she led the team with her .386 batting average. The .386 mark was also top-five in the GSAC.
Giles added a team-leading 49 hits, adding 11 doubles, five home runs, and four triples. Her .990 fielding percentage was the second-best on the Warriors by all non-pitchers, trailing only
Olivia Dominguez, who posted a perfect 1.000 mark in center field.
The consistency of Giles has been on display all season, as she led the Warriors with a nine-game hitting streak earlier in the season and held the longest on-base streak (14) of anyone on the team.
All-Conference selections were announced by the GSAC Monday afternoon, including selections of gold glove winners. The 2023 Player of the Year was Kaylie Williams of Vanguard, with Hope International's Allie Puente once again garnering Pitcher of the Year honors.
The GSAC Coach of the Year, awarded to Jessup's
Brie Campbell in 2022, goes to HIU's Alex Mascarenes in 2023.
HIU led the GSAC with seven All-GSAC selections. Arizona Christian added five.
Jessup, along with their two All-GSAC selections, are in Irvine this week for the 2023 GSAC Tournament. The Warriors open the postseason on Monday against Arizona Christian.
