Physical Battle with Menlo Ends in a Non-Conference Draw

Nunez and Ionescu score for the second time this week; The Warriors have a week off before hosting Academy of Art

ROCKLIN, Calif. - The Friday matinee matchup resulted in a tie for the Warriors as they took on GSAC opponent Menlo College in a non-conference meeting. The action-filled day may not have resulted in a tally in the win column, but it did not disappoint with a 2-2 draw.

Head coach Greg Lazaga offered his comments after the match, noting, "It was really an up-and-down game today for us. We had some good breakouts in transition early. Just need to work on the result to finish."

Jessup now moves to 4-3-2 on the year, with Friday concluding in their second tie of the season. The Warriors were looking to make it their second win in a row on home turf after an impressive 6-0 victory just earlier this week.

Tensions flew high in a competitive matchup against the visiting Oaks. In the first half alone, thirteen fouls and four yellow cards were distributed between Menlo and Jessup.

It would be Menlo that started the scoring as they struck first just 15 minutes into the match. The goal would come from Eder Carrasco, assisted by Axel Valle. It didn't take Jessup long to answer back as Paolo Ionescu would tie up the game in the 26th minute of play, making this his fourth goal of the season.

The fouls didn't halt in the second half, as there were sixteen fouls and seven yellow cards in the last 45 minutes of regulation.

Diego Nunez found himself in the goal-scoring mix again for his second game in a row to put the Warriors ahead 2-1. This score-changing goal came after his assist in the first half, making this his sixth goal of the year.

Unfortunately, the Warriors could not hold on to the lead much longer. Axle Valle tied the game with a penalty kick to match the competition. The remainder of the match would remain unscored with a final score of 2-2.

On the penalty, Lazaga added, "The PK against us in the final stretch was tough, and we need to mature in those moments. It's a game to learn from as we get closer to conference."

The Warriors will get a much-needed week-long break as they return to Warrior Field on Friday, September 22nd, facing off against the Academy of the Arts at 4:00 PM.
