ROCKLIN, Calif. – The first conference championship-winning season in Jessup Volleyball history will be recognized on Friday night. With OUAZ coming to town to begin the 2023 GSAC schedule, the Warriors will hold a special pregame ceremony in recognition of 2022's highlight season.
Friday's ceremony will see the official unveiling of Jessup's 2022 GSAC Championship banner, made by Jessup Athletics partner Avalon Printing & Graphics. The banner will be hung in the rafters of Warrior Arena, where it will forever be on display to commemorate Jessup's' run to championship gold.
The 2022 Warriors entered the GSAC Tournament as the second seed, drawing Vanguard in their first matchup. Jessup beat the Lions in four sets, sending the Warriors to the conference championship match against Westmont.
Westmont, who have since left the GSAC and are now members of NCAA Division II and the Pac West, had never lost to Jessup in volleyball entering the final match of the regular season. Trailing 2-0 entering the third set, Jessup mounted a reverse sweep that clinched the No. 2 seed in the tournament, which also came with a first-round bye.
In the championship match, it was all Jessup. Jessup claimed the first set 25-16, which they then followed up with a dominating 25-11 victory in the second. The conference title was clinched when Jessup won the third set 25-21, earning a sweep and a trip to the NAIA Opening Round.
