San Francisco Sweep Pushes Jessup’s Win Streak to Three

MacCuish, Miller, and Sheridan finish the night with double-digit kills; Jessup heads to Fresno on Saturday before leaving for Hawaii

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – It takes three to officially classify as a winning streak, and the Warriors have done just that, as a sweep of Academy of Art on Thursday gave Jessup their third win in a row. On night two of a six-match road trip, the Warriors had little hiccups as they made quick work, as the trip now moves to Fresno before they jet across the Pacific.

The Warriors were paced at the net by three double-digit kill performances from Taylor MacCuish, Madalyn Miller, and Eliana Sheridan. MacCuish led the way with 15, as it was her eighth time eclipsing ten kills in a match this season. Miller added 13.

Sheridan contributed both offensively and defensively, as she turned in a double-double of 11 kills and 18 digs. Neena Dimas matched Sheridan with a team-leading 18 digs.

The first set saw both teams go on runs, first with the Warriors, who sparked a 4-0 run early, and later with the Urban Knights, who followed up with a 4-0 run of their own. The back-and-forth battle stayed that way until the end, so much so that 25 points were not enough as Jessup eventually won the set, 26-24.

Set two was not the same battle, as the Warriors won by seven, 25-18.

Looking to sweep, the third set saw a bit of a curveball come into play near the end, but not by either team on the court. With Jessup leading 18-17, a stoppage was called by the officials, and a conference was held at the center table. The stoppage, which lasted upwards of ten minutes, resulted in a change in the scoring, as it was deemed that the correct score was actually 18-18.

Now tied, Jessup was unphased. In fact, the Warriors scored seven of the next eight points, capped off with an Alexis Kepa ace to seal the sweep.

Jessup is now .500 (8-8, 4-5 PacWest) under first-year head coach Kyle Steele, with seven of those victories coming away from Warrior Arena.

The Warriors will now take their talents down to Fresno, as awaiting them is a meeting with Fresno Pacific on Saturday. After that is the much-anticipated trip to Hawaii, as Jessup will compete three times across a week in the Aloha State.

Saturday's meeting with the Sunbirds is scheduled for 2 p.m.
