SAN RAFAEL, Calif. – The road slate for the 2024 women's soccer season met its end on Saturday as the Warriors paid a visit to Dominican in San Rafael. A goal late in the match cut the deficit in half, but the tally was too late as the Penguins won the battle 2-1.
Jessup heads back to Rocklin with an overall record of 3-10-2. Awaiting them are the final three matches of their first NCAA season, each taking place on their home turf of Warrior Field.
A goal from
Abella Waterman was the lone tally from the Warriors in the loss, and it came late in the 87th minute of the competition. Waterman collected the ball inside the box after a ball was played to her by
Mikaela Patterson. Waterman, who stayed onside, then turned and shot the ball inside the right post for her second goal of the season.
Jessup's tally came with the score already 2-0, as the Penguins put two goals on the board in the opening half. The first goal came from Ashlynn Hill 17 minutes in, and then Hill scored again seven minutes later in what later proved to be the game-winner.
Dominican had ten chances on frame in the 90-minute affair, five of which came off the foot of Hill, while the Warriors closed their road finale with four attempts on goal.
Head coach
Amsalu Fantahun split his goalkeeping duties on Saturday. Freshman
Lille Aimes earned the start, totaling seven saves while allowing two goals.
Celeste Fernandez recorded just one save in her half of action.
Jessup now heads home for the remainder of their season, beginning on October 30 when Academy of Art comes to Rocklin. The season then continues on November 2 with Senior Day against Concordia. Azusa Pacific will make a visit on November 7 to wrap up the 2024 season.
