ROCKLIN, Calif. – In less than 60 seconds, the Warriors netted both goals of their 2-0 victory against Academy of Art. Backed by the early breakaway chances, the Warriors earn win number four, heading into Senior Day on Saturday.
Junior
Galaxy Mijares scored her first of the season in the 32nd minute. The goal came on a breakaway attempt near midfield and ended with Mijares chipping the ball over the goalkeeper.
It was only a few seconds later that
Kaylee Gillespie stole the ball and slotted it away herself, scoring her fifth of the season.
The Urban Knights put shots on goal as Jessup goalkeeper
Celeste Fernandez finished with four saves, but the Warriors did a solid job defensively to limit their production. Academy of Art goalkeeper Nicole Peoples made five saves.
Jessup totaled 14 shots with seven on frame, including three from Gillespie, two from
Mikayla Olariu, one from Mijares, and one from
Anisha Dwarka.
There were only two cautions in the game, both on Jessup, as
Mikaela Patterson received a yellow in the 46th minute, and Olariu was given a card in the 71st minute.
The win is the second for the Warriors at home this season. They will attempt to continue winning ways on Saturday when they host Concordia for senior day. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. The Senior Day ceremony will be immediately before kickoff, and the start time depends on the end time of the men's match before.
