ROCKLIN, Calif. – The Warriors hosted the Golden Eagles of Concordia on Saturday for Senior Day at Warrior Field. On a day centered around 12 Warriors, two second-half CUI goals stole away the perfect ending as Jessup dropped the penultimate home match of the season, 2-0.
Jessup is now on to their final match of the year, as Azusa Pacific will come to town on November 7.
The day began with the annual Senior Day ceremony, as 12 Warriors were honored on their final Saturday in a Jessup uniform. Head coach
Amsalu Fantahun and his staff presented each senior and their family, with flowers and a special gift from the athletic department.
Once the match began, it was a defensive battle for the first 45 minutes, as neither team could find the scoreboard. Jessup's best chance came off the foot of
Kaylee Gillespie, as the senior nailed the crossbar on an attempt from 20 yards out.
The first goal of the day would finally come at the 75-minute mark, as the Eagles converted a penalty attempt. Hailey Havicon slotted home the chance and later added her second goal of the day with an 86th minute header to push the lead to 2-0.
Jessup finished the battle with three shots, none on goal, while CUI finished with 16 attempts (seven on frame).
Jessup is now 4-11-2 on the season and 2-7-1 in the PacWest Conference. The final match of the season awaits the Warriors next week, as they will host Azusa Pacific on Thursday. Match time has been moved up to 2:30 p.m. to avoid the match ending past sunset.
