Waterman Earns CSC Academic All-District Distinction

Waterman finished the season with one goal and two assists; All-District distinction recognizes both athletic and academic success

11/19/24

ROCKLIN, Calif. – The 2024 men's and women's soccer selections to the CSC Academic All-District team were announced Tuesday morning, and representing Jessup is sophomore midfielder Abella Waterman. The award recognizes a student-athlete's success both on the field and in the classroom.

CSC (College Sports Communicators) is an organization made up of athletic communicators at institutions across the United States and Canada. Nominations for Academic All-District are made by each school's CSC member, and nominees are then voted regionally by district. Select All-District winners then advance to the national ballot for Academic All-American distinction.

Nominees for Academic All-District must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or higher, be a sophomore or above academically, and meet specific performance minimums per sport, such as games started, minutes played, goals/points scored, etc.

Waterman, a junior academically, posts a near 4.0 GPA as a Political Science major. She was one of seven women's soccer athletes at Jessup to earn NCCAA Scholar-Athlete distinction, which also required a minimum GPA of 3.50. A sophomore in terms of athletic eligibility, Waterman started 14 of the 18 games she appeared in this year.

The midfielder scored two goals this season, the first coming in Jessup's 11-0 win against Cal Maritime and the second being a conference goal on the road at Dominican. She also added an assist in the Cal Maritime win and another during the Warriors' victory at Hawaii Pacific in Honolulu.

Waterman logged 1,271 minutes of game time this season, second-most on the Warriors, trailing only the 1,319 from Samantha Selch.

Recipients of Academic All-District are broken up by level of competition. Waterman becomes the first Division II selection to the Academic All-District team, and she is the first women's soccer selection since Hannah Olariu's in 2022.

The Warriors finished their first NCAA Division II season with an overall record of 4-12-2. Jessup finished 2-8-1 in their first PacWest season.
