ROCKLIN, Calif. – Just two matches remain in the 2024 regular season following Tuesday night's 3-1 victory against the Dominican Penguins. Backed by another 20-kill night from
Madalyn Miller, the Warriors continue their push to finish with a winning record in year one with the PacWest.
The Warriors are now 10-8 in conference action following the win on Tuesday night. Jessup has also won four straight at home, improving their season record to .500 inside Warrior Arena.
Miller led the way offensively yet again, finishing with 20 kills on the night. Tuesday was the fifth time this season for Miller to hit 20 kills in a match, with two of those moments coming in Jessup's last three matches.
It wasn't just Miller racking up the kills, however, as the Warriors finished with three players in double-figures.
Eliana Sheridan totaled 11 in the win, and
Carolena Bogdanovich added ten while posting a .600 hitting percentage.
Taylor MacCuish was one away from double-digits, ending the night with nine.
Neena Dimas contributed 19 digs to lead the way. Setter
Kenzie Carpenter was very active, both setting up the offense and contributing defensively, as she closed with 41 assists and 13 digs.
The Warriors got off to a slow start Tuesday night as they dropped the first set, 25-19, but they bounced back to take the second, 27-25. Jessup sat on set point at 24-22, but the Penguins clawed back to extend the set past 25. The winning point of the set came on a Penguin attack error.
Jessup kept the momentum going in the third as they took the set, 25-18. Another Dominican rally kept the Penguins alive, as three straight points with the Warriors on match point extended the set, but a Miller kill was the final nail.
Miller would add her second set point of the night in the fourth, as this time it was match point that did away with the Penguins, 25-21.
Tuesday was the third meeting of the season between Jessup and Dominican and the first not to reach the fifth set. The two met on the first day of the season in a non-conference battle, with Dominican winning 3-2 after Jessup came back to force a fifth from a 2-0 hole. The Warriors again forced a fifth after dropping the first two sets in their first PacWest meeting last month, except that time, the Warriors were able to finish off the reverse sweep.
Dominican is now 4-14 in PacWest action with Tuesday's loss.
Jessup now looks to Westmont on Friday, as two matches remain on the season. Following their first PacWest meeting with the Warriors from Santa Barbara, Jessup will come back on Saturday to honor nine seniors as part of Senior Day.
Biola will be the opponent for the season finale.
