ROCKLIN, Calif. – A six-match road trip has come and gone, but here to stay is the hot streak the Warriors have been on, as Saturday saw Jessup produce a sweep of Academy of Art. The sweep is Jessup's second against the Urban Knights and makes it seven victories in eight matches for
Kyle Steele's Warriors.
With their winning ways, the Warriors are now 12-9 in their inaugural Division II campaign. With six matches to go, the Warriors also find themselves sitting 8-6 in conference play.
Jessup was paced by a trio of Warriors, who finished with double-digit kills.
Taylor MacCuish led the way once again, this time with 13 kills on a .250 hitting performance.
Eliana Sheridan closed the night behind her with 11, followed by
Madalyn Miller with 10.
Setting up the attack was senior setter
Kenzie Carpenter, who totaled 36 assists.
Sheridan led Jessup defensively with 11 digs, followed by
Neena Dimas with 10.
Alexis Kepa added nine digs and four assists off the bench. The Warriors also added five blocks as a team, compared to four from Academy of Art.
The Warriors opened the night with a commanding victory in the first set, 25-15, to take a 1-0 lead in the bout. An 11-3 run for the Warriors set up the big victory, but Academy of Art would not back down, as the next two sets were much closer.
Set two saw the Warriors get to set point, leading 24-20, but a late fight by the Urban Knights saw three straight points go on the board for the visitor. A MacCuish kill would ultimately silence the threat, giving Jessup a 25-23 victory. The third set saw a similar finish, this time a 3-1 run by Academy of Art, beginning with Jessup ahead 23-19. A Sheridan kill would be the final tally, as match point came with Jessup taking the finale, 25-22.
Academy of Art falls to 5-11 in conference action with the loss. Jessup now sits in seventh place in the PacWest with the victory.
Saturday's match was the first at home for the Warriors following a six-match road trip, with three of those matches being in Hawaii. The Warriors will again be at home on Tuesday when they host Menlo, and then they will be back to the road for the final two matches away from Warrior Arena.
