ROCKLIN, Calif. – Sweeping, it's become the Jessup way as of late, and in Tuesday night's meeting with the Menlo Oaks, the trend only continued. Thanks to their 3-0 victory against their Northern California rivals, the Warriors have now swept their last three matches, as the hot streak lives on.
Jessup is now 9-6 in PacWest action, set up by an 8-1 streak over the Warriors' last nine matches. The only loss for the Warriors during that span came in four sets at No. 7 Chaminade, and five of the eight victories have occurred away from Warrior Arena.
Menlo drops to 6-11 in their debut PacWest season with the loss.
Although the Warriors walked away with the sweep, it was still a neck-and-neck affair for all three sets, with the average margin of victory being three points per set.
Jessup grabbed the opening set, 25-23, but not without some drama late by the Oaks. After a 3-0 Jessup run to push their lead to 21-15, Menlo came rolling back with an 8-1 run to swipe the lead, as the Oaks went on top at 23-22. Three straight kills by
Madalyn Miller then followed as Jessup ended the set on a 3-0 run.
Set two also saw a big run, this one by the Warriors, as a 5-0 run took what was an 11-10 Menlo lead and made it a 14-11 Jessup advantage. Jessup also ended the set on a hot streak, as an 8-2 run gave the Warriors a 25-21 decision, placing them a set away from victory.
The final set saw Jessup reach match point at 24-17, but like the two preceding sets, the Oaks had plenty of fight left in them. Five straight Menlo points forced head coach
Kyle Steele to burn both of his timeouts and after the second stoppage, a Menlo service error put the final nail in a 25-22 Jessup victory.
Miller led the way as the only Jessup player in double-figures on the attack, as her 13 kills came on a .235 hitting performance.
Taylor MacCuish was behind her with nine.
Eliana Sheridan led the defensive efforts with 18 digs, the second most she has totaled in a match this season.
The Warriors will hit the road this weekend for the final time during the regular season, beginning with a visit to Vanguard and the brand-new Freed Center on Friday night. The trip then wraps up on Saturday when the Warriors visit No. 13 Point Loma.
Jessup will be back home next week for the final three matches of the season, beginning on November 19 against Dominican. The season concludes on November 23 for Senior Day against Biola.
