POINT LOOKOUT, Mo. — The magical run of Jessup Women's Volleyball has come to end with the conclusion of Saturday's NCCAA National Championship match. Following a 3-1 loss to the Grace Lancers, the Warriors have concluded their first season as NCCAA members as the national runner-up.
Jessup, led in their first season by head coach
Kyle Steele, conclude the campaign with a record of 19-13. The Warriors' 19 victories are the most in program history.
Senior
Madalyn Miller concluded her final collegiate match with a team-leading 13 kills. Her historic career ends with 1,113 kills, the most in program history.
Taylor MacCuish finished behind her with 12 kills, as she ends a five-year career with the Warriors.
Miller's efforts in the NCCAA Tournament earned her a selection to the All-Tournament team, where she was joined by
Neena Dimas. Miller racked up 67 kills this week, with Dimas adding 109 digs.
Dimas led Jessup with 35 digs in Saturday's loss, which set a new season-high.
After starting the week 4-0 in the first set, Jessup finally got in a 1-0 hole after Grace took the opener, 25-22. The Warriors were also unbeaten in second sets this week, but after a 25-18 win for the Lancers, Jessup found themselves sitting on the wrong side of a 2-0 hole.
The Warriors finally sparked some momentum in the third, starting with an 11-2 run to begin the set. Jessup would hold on to their big lead, eventually winning 25-19, extending the contest to a fourth set. But just as Jessup started fast in the third, Grace had equally as hot of a start in the fourth.
Grace started the fourth set by scoring the first six points. Their lead eventually hit 12-3 before Jessup could gain any traction. The set eventually ended with Grace on top 25-13, sending the Lancers onto the floor in celebration as they successfully defended their national title.
The Warriors now say goodbye to nine seniors who played their final collegiate matches on Saturday. Those seniors are Dimas, MacCuish, Miller,
Kenzie Carpenter,
Taylor Dilley,
Delaina Hunt,
Emma Miller, and
Jordyn MacCuish.
