Warriors Launch Seven Homers in 21-9 Rout of the Oaks

Trey Furrey hit his NAIA-leading 9th and 10th home runs of the season; Jessup leads the nation with 40 home runs

LINCOLN, Calif. – No team in NAIA baseball has hit as many home runs as Jessup University, and after Friday's 21-9 rout of the Menlo Oaks, Jessup has some breathing room in that category. Backed by a seven home run performance, Jessup gave their fans a show as they got back to .500 in GSAC action.

The day saw home runs off the bat of Trey Furrey (2), Conner Culp, Cole Hazel, Jack Grant, Bryce Petrilla, and Dominic Ott.

For Furrey, who came into the day batting .500, he hit his ninth and tenth home runs of the season, the most in the nation. Furrey is now batting .533 on the year as he went 4-for-5 with five RBI and four runs scored.

Grant also had a big day at the dish, as he finished 3-for-5 with two RBI and a pair of runs scored.

Jessup turned to Anthony Perez to start on the mound, and the right-hander proceeded to turn in his best outing of the season while improving his record to 2-2. Perez struck out seven while allowing four runs on five hits across five innings of work.

Even Williams (1.1 IP), Xavier Maldonado (0.1 IP), and Ryan Stone (2.1 IP) provided relief out of the bullpen.

Jessup put up three runs in the second and followed it up with three more in the third as they took a 6-2 lead. But Menlo would not go away as they scored a run in four straight innings, cutting within two.

Then came the fourth, as Petrilla led off the frame with a laser beam home run to right. Furrey also homered in the inning, a three-run shot, to put the Warriors ahead 10-4. Jessup then came back in the seventh with a seven-run performance, backed by homers from Grant, Ott, and a second from Furrey.

Culp and Hazel added their home runs in the eighth.

The Warriors are now 12-3 on the season, as they improve their GSAC record to 2-2. Jessup will be back in action tomorrow when they welcome back the Oaks for a doubleheader starting at 11 a.m. from McBean Park in Lincoln.
