Softball Sweeps the Weekend Against No. 1 in the Country

Jessup sweeps the weekend, including no. 1 in the country Oregon Tech; Pitching dominated, leading Warriors to a weekend sweep

ROCKLIN, Calif. - The Warriors continued their hot start to the season and gave the fans an exciting victory-filled weekend sweep versus more top-ranked teams in the country.

Jessup suited up and took on College of Idaho (#13) and Oregon Tech (#1), who they beat just yesterday morning. The four wins completed the weekend sweep and left the Warriors with a big target on their backs.

Coach Brie Campbell spoke on the victorious weekend and the mentality of going into such a competitive weekend. "As our good friend Ryan Stevens always said, you're not playing a rank, a better or worse team than you, just someone in another jersey on the other side of the field, and this weekend, we played our game to come out with four wins."

Commanding pitching and lights-out defense led the Warriors to a 4-2 victory over no. 13 College of Idaho. Kaitlyn Fanning collected three of the four RBIs, along with one coming from Malia Ishii on a late 5th-inning base hit.

Terra Goetz (4.0) and Katie Blankenheim (3.0) only allowed a combined five hits and three strikeouts, holding the Yotes to one run.

The pitching duo of Serena Navarrete and Bella MacFarlane controlled game two in a 2-1 thrilling victory of the Owls of Oregon Tech. Navarrete is now 3-0 on the season, while MacFarlane tallies her second save of the year.

"It was another great outing for our pitching staff, each owning their role and innings. They set the tone for our defense, and I'm grateful for their grit and grind through the innings," said Campbell.

A pitchers' dual on both ends kept the game at a quick pace. The Warriors would put two runs on the board in the bottom of the fourth inning. The RBI double would come from Aaliyah Pineda down the left-field line.

The Owls would scratch one run just an inning later, but it wouldn't be enough. Jessup completed the victory with a sweep of the Owls and, on the entire weekend, moved them to a 14-2 record.

The Warriors will close out their pre-season next Wednesday against the University of Saint Katherine before moving into GSAC conference play.
