Jessup Leaves Arizona Tied for First After Loss to OUAZ

Ty Artis dropped his eighth 20+ point game of the season; Jessup will be looking for revenge next week when HIU comes to town

SURPRISE, Ariz. – The GSAC's first-place team was in action on Saturday as the Warriors continued their Arizona trip with a visit to OUAZ. Looking for their second regular season sweep in a row, OUAZ put up too much in the second half for Jessup to combat as the Warriors lost 100-94.

Now 15-7 on the season, Jessup sees their GSAC record drop to 6-3. The Warriors again find themselves in a three-way tie atop the GSAC with Arizona Christian and OUAZ.

Jessup's leading scorer on Saturday was guard Ty Artis, who scored 28 points on 11-for-20 from the floor. Saturday is the eighth time this season that Artis scored 20+, as he sees his season average move up to 18.1 PPG.

Myles Corey (18) and Ja'Maris Blackmon (17) also contributed on the offensive end, as Jessup shot 49.3 percent as a team.

The Warriors led by as many as eight in this one, coming with just over five minutes to go in the first half. But the shots stopped falling for the Warriors when it mattered most as OUAZ went on a 16-2 run late in the game to steal any momentum that had gone the Warriors' way.

OUAZ was led by two players with 20+ points, as Elijah Simmons (25) and Jacob Henry (22) did the bulk of the scoring.

The Spirit ended the game shooting 67 percent as a team.

Jessup now heads home for their final homestand of the season, beginning with Hope International on February 8. HIU took down the Warriors in overtime during their meeting in Fullerton earlier this year.

Other games on the homestand include visits from Vanguard and Menlo. Tickets for the Warriors' final three home games are on sale HERE.
