LINCOLN, Calif. – The ball was jumping at McBean Park on Friday, as two games with Corban University saw the Warriors put nine over the fence. With the Warriors dominating their way to a 17-6 win in game one, Jessup needed to be comeback kids in game two as back-to-back jacks clinched a 9-6 win.
With two more wins, the Warriors push their early season record to 8-1.
Trey Furrey was once again a one-man highlight reel as the senior clubbed three more home runs, two coming in game one. Furrey now has seven on the year, as he again stakes his claim for Player of the Week notoriety at the week's end.
The Warriors put up a six spot in the bottom of the first in game one, four coming before an out was ever recorded. A second six spot in the sixth had Jessup sitting pretty at 13-2.
On top of Furrey, also leaving the yard in game one, were Quiton Hall,
Cole Hazel, and
Kayde Iranon.
Picking up his first Jessup victory was right-hander
Anthony Perez, as he tossed six innings in which he allowed two runs on four hits while striking out five.
Keola Yim,
Mason Azevedo, and
Richie Vidal all pitched an inning in relief.
But it wouldn't be a pair of blowouts for the Warriors on Friday, as Corban came out hot in game two, taking a 5-1 lead with a four-run fifth inning. That set up an opportunity for Jessup to produce a comeback, a call they answered.
The rally began with
Chris Lopez, who sent one over the wall in right-center to cut Jessup within two.
Jack Grant kept the line moving with an RBI single to make it 5-4. Then came
Drew Andrews, who turned on one, sending it deep into the left field parking lot to put Jessup on top 7-5.
James Williams III then added to the rally one batter later with his second pinch-hit bomb of the year.
Xavier Maldonado earned the victory, while
Ryan Stone slammed the door shut with his second save of the year.
The Warriors and Corban will return to the diamond tomorrow as another doubleheader is scheduled for noon. That will be Jessup's final home games before they hit the road for the start GSAC play in Arizona.
