FOLSOM, Calif. - A solid defensive day lifted the Warriors to two more wins to continue their strong start so early in the season. Jessup took on Corban University and Westcliff University in Friday afternoon match ups at Folsom Lake College.
Head Coach
Brie Campbell talked positively of the double win from her team today, "It's early in the season, but it's a great feeling to be able to look at a roster of 20 and know we can pass the ball or bat to anyone wearing the red and white today."
These two wins now push the Warriors to 4-1 overall.
Starting game one strong,
Katie Blankenheim tallied her first win, pitching a shutout game and only allowing three hits on the day. Blankenheim and solid defense lead the Warriors to their first win of the day, defeating Corban 5-0.
The pitching staff stayed dominate in the circle as
Terra Goetz got the nod for game two. Goetz went 5.0 innings with four strikeouts and only allowed four hits.
Bella MacFarlane would tally the win as she came in to relieve and shut Westcliff down in the last two innings.
With constant back-and-forth competition, action sparked the Warrior dugout with a big defensive play from
Olivia Dominguez in left field. Westcliff came up with a big hit, but Dominguez caught air and secured a game-shifting catch, ending the inning with a double play to put the bats in Jessup's hands.
This one would go till the end as Jessup entered the bottom of the sixth inning tied 2-2.
Sarah Giles started the inning off hot with a double off the left field wall. Clutch hits would continue from
Kaylee Winn and
Neva Adams, and effective small ball from
Kaitlyn Fanning proved evident ot give Jessup the lead. The Warriors scored two runs and would be enough to secure the win.
Jessup defeated Westcliff in a final score of 4-2.
"Two team effort wins today, from the circle to the box. I can't say enough about this team's never-quit mentality; getting better every pitch and every out is how it has to be, and they're all in. Excited to see them continue to grow and develop as one throughout this season." continued head coach
Brie Campbell.
The Warriors have a quick turnaround with these two teams as they meet again tomorrow at 12:00 PM and 4:00 PM.
