STUNT Sweeps Day One of Two Day Invitational

Jessup narrowly edged past No. 2 Hope International to start the day; The Warriors will play STUNT powerhouse Cal Baptist tomorrow at 9 a.m.

ROCKLIN, Calif. – Jessup STUNT hit the mat twice on Friday as they welcomed a group of schools to Warrior Arena for a two-day invitational. Beginning the day taking on the No. 2 program in the nation, Jessup started with a nail-biting victory and ended with a more comfortable result as they picked up two wins.

The day started with Jessup hosting Hope International, the second-ranked team in the nation per the latest NAIA STUNT rankings. Sitting at the top of the list is Jessup, as the two-time defending national champions continue to be the No. 1 program in the country.

It was a nailbiter until the very end, as Jessup squeaked out a 14-13 victory.

Jessup opened with three points in the first quarter, opposed by two from the Royals, as the quarter ended with a tie in routine six. The next quarter saw an even split, as Jessup won the first two routines before HIU claimed two straight to send the contest to halftime, with Jessup leading 5-4.

Another 3-2 advantage by the Warriors in the third sent the contest to the fourth, with Jessup holding on to a two-point lead.

That lead went by the wayside after the first routine of the fourth quarter, as HIU swept the board, claiming three points to go ahead by one. But then Jessup settled down, taking six points to Hope's four as the Warriors edged away with the one-point win.

Jessup then took a two-hour break before returning to the mat at 4 p.m. to take on the Tigers of Riverside Community College.

The first half went the way of the Warriors, as Jessup scored in all eight routines, with only one ending in a draw as Jessup took an 8-1 lead into halftime. Jessup then swept the third, as they took a 12-1 lead into the final frame.

It would be much of the same in the fourth, as Jessup again swept the board, taking all 12 available points to wrap up a 24-1 victory.

The two victories improve Jessup's record to 5-1.

Jessup will be back in action tomorrow as they take on the top-ranked program from NCAA Division I, the Lancers of Cal Baptist. The matchup with CBU will take place at 9 a.m.

The Warriors will wrap up the weekend when they host OUAZ at 4 p.m. Tickets are on sale HERE.
