TURLOCK, Calif. – Following the work of three Warriors in South Dakota this week, the rest of the Warriors got back to action in Turlock for the Kim Duyst Invitational. The two-day meet kicks off the outdoor season, as sights are now set on nationals in Indiana.
The two-day meet began on Friday with the throwers in action.
Placing first and second in the women's discus were
Julia Pisenti and
Jessica Pedretti. Pisenti took first as she posted a top mark of 42.35m. Pedretti was right behind her with a mark of 40.55m. Pedretti also placed second in the hammer with her throw of 44.47m.
Pisenti then took second in the shot put, posting 12.25m, while Pedretti took third at 10.66m. Pisenti also competed in the long jump, as she placed second with a top jump of 4.03m.
The meet continued on Saturday, as action moved to the track as athletes competed in both running and field events.
The competition Jessup was up against this weekend included several schools from NCAA Division II and III, along with several junior colleges. UC Merced was the lone NAIA program joining the Warriors in the field.
On the track, Jessup saw PRs set in the distance events, as
Xavier Morales bested his PR in the 5000m with a time of 16:49.
Zachary Heberlein also set a PR in the event, besting his previous best time by over 30 seconds by finishing at 16:50.
Cheyenne Ulrich also set a PR in the 5000m with her time of 19:43, besting her previous best by 35 seconds.
Up next for the Warriors is a meet closer to home, as Jessup will compete in the Aggie Open hosted by UC Davis next week. It will be the first of two meets in two weeks for Jessup in the Sacramento area, as the following weekend, they will be competing in Sacramento State's Hornet Invitational.
The Warriors will be back in Turlock on April 4 for the Stanislaus State Multis.
