Jessup Sweeps Another Series in Midweek Matchup

Sarah Giles hits home runs in back-to-back games, including a grand slam; Jessup sweeps the day against Redhawks.

LINCOLN, Calif. - Fans gathered on a Tuesday afternoon at Foskett Regional Park as Jessup took on opponents of Simpson University in a weekday non-conference matchup. The Warriors swept the day, defeating the Redhawks in game one 11-2 in five innings and 6-4 in game two.

Jessup is now 22-5 overall and 5-3 in conference.

Game one started off with a bang, as Maddy Ybarra started the scoring with a two-run homer to left field. The scoring frenzy continued as Jessup put up runs in every inning.

Sarah Giles continued to be a threat at the plate, hitting a grand slam in the bottom of the third inning to clear the bases and extend the Warriors' lead. Giles had previously intentionally walked nine consecutive at-bats in the series against Arizona Christian and OUAZ.

Five different Warriors went 2-for-3 in the box today to pass the stick and capitalize on the offensive shift. Katie Blankenheim was the starting pitcher for game one to toss the complete five-inning game and move to 9-2 on the year.

Ybarra and Giles continued to make noise at the plate going into game two. Ybarra went 2-for-2 with three RBIs, and Giles homered again with three RBIs and went 2-for-3 in the box. Sarah Giles has now matched the single-season home run record at 12.

In game two, starter Terra Goetz received her eighth win of the year, and Serena Navarrete secured yet another save on the season.

Goetz pitched 6.1 innings and had six strikeouts on the day. In the top of the seventh inning, with the bases loaded and one out, Navarrete came in to relieve. Competitive pitching and solid defense got the Warriors out of the jam and secured the victory, 6-4.

Head Coach Brie Campbell tallied two more wins and celebrated her birthday with the Warrior family.

The Warriors get Easter weekend off and will be back at home on April 5th and 6th for a final faceoff against Hope International and Vanguard University in regular season play.
