Solid Offense Leads to Sweep of No. 22 Vanguard

Jessup sweeps No. 22 Vanguard University with a solid offensive stint; Jessup looks towards No. 12 Hope International in a conference game tomorrow at home.

FOLSOM, Calif. - Clouds and rain slowly started the day as the Warriors looked towards conference games against No. 22 Vanguard University. Mother Nature's unpredicted forecast moved game times to 1:00 and 3:00 PM at Folsom Lake College.

The gloomy weather may have delayed the game times, but that was no issue for the Warriors. Jessup swept the day, taking two wins from the Lions. Jessup is now 25-5 overall and 7-3 in conference.

The Warriors suffered two of their three losses to the Lions of Vanguard University just previously in a road trip down to Southern California. Jessup was determined to come out strong, even the series before heading to the GSAC Tournament, and that's just what they did.

Vanguard got an explosive start in game one as they scored three runs in the first inning. Jessup answered right back in the bottom of the first inning with an RBI triple from Maddy Ybarra to score Madisyn Leffle (2-for-3). Sarah Giles tallied the other run with a sacrifice fly to score Ybarra.

Just an inning later, Ybarra would hit her eighth home run of the year to even the score and finish the game 4-for-4 at the dish. The game would continue to be neck-and-neck until Sarah Giles hit a go-ahead blast in the bottom of the sixth. This put Giles at 13 on the year, creating a new single-season home run record. The Warriors would win 9-8.

In game two, Jessup continued to pass the bat up and down the lineup to find themselves on top once again. Vanguard would again score first, but Sam Lorge answered right back with a two-run bomb to left center. Sacrifice flies, home runs, and timely gap hits would keep the Warriors' sweep complete.

Head Coach Brie Campbell discussed her thoughts: "We knew that going into this weekend with Hope and Vanguard and the second half of conference matchups, we had to be at our best. Vanguard is an offensively strong team, so we knew we had to just be a little better, and today, a single home run was the deciding factor in one, and a pass of the bat in game two secured it."

Jessup will face SoCal foe No. 12 of Hope International tomorrow at 12:00 and 2:00 PM at Foskett Regional Park in Lincoln, California.
