Baseball Splits a Pair with Conference Foes

Haliama Swartman pitches a complete game to improve to 4-0; Bryce Petrilla with a two-homerun day

LINCOLN, Calif. - Friday afternoon baseball was played at McBean Stadium under blue and sunny skies. The Warriors laced up to take on Arizona GSAC opponents of OUAZ. Jessup would split a pair on home turf in conference play.

Game one favored the Spirit in a 22-5 defeat. OUAZ jumped ahead early, scoring four runs in the first two innings. The Spirit would hold the lead for the remainder of the game, and the damage was done when they put up a ten spot in the top of the eighth.

This would only record the Warriors' second at-home loss of the season.

The Warriors' quick turnaround for game two proved evident, as strong pitching and an offensive bounceback resulted in a 9-3 victory.

Head coach Trevor Paine commented on the day, "I'm really happy with how we responded in game 2. We didn't do well in game 1, but we got over it quickly and focused on game 2. We need to do a better job of limiting free bases tomorrow, and if we can do that, I like our chances."

Right-hander Haliama Swartman tossed a complete seven-inning game, dominating and improving his record to 4-0.

"Hailama was great and picked the pitching staff up in a huge way to put us in a good position for tomorrow," continued Paine.

Chris Lopez would break the game open with a three-run shot to dead center in the bottom of the first inning, putting the Warriors ahead 3-2.

Bryce Petrilla and Drew Andrews also played the long ball today to stretch the lead further. Petrilla hit two home runs in back-to-back games.

Jessup continued to stay ahead and came out on top in game two, winning 9-3 to end the day. Skipper Trevor Paine celebrated with his team as they collected another tally in the win column on his birthday with the Warrior family.

The Warriors look for a series win tomorrow as they take on OUAZ in game three at 1:00 PM at McBean Stadium.
