BUCKEYE, Ariz. - The Warriors began a long road trip with a split in a Thursday night series with OUAZ. Conference games that were rained out in mid-March were made up to go towards GSAC play records.
Tonight's split was Jessup's first two games of a six-game weekend. The Warriors won game one with a final score of 5-4 and lost in a mercy rule game, 11-2. This moves Jessup to 28-6 overall.
Game one would continue from where it left off on a rainy day on March 23rd. Mother Nature forced the game to be a rainout, and that's where we would continue in the opposite 94-degree weather in Arizona.
Starter
Serena Navarrete pitched seven innings, commanding eight strikeouts on the day and moving to 5-1 on the season.
OUAZ commanded the lead until the fifth inning when
Sarah Giles's big bat turned the tables. A three-run home run gave the Warriors the lead.
Neva Adams clutched up with a loud single to extend the Warrior lead. The Spirit tried to complete the comeback, but the Warriors hung on to come out on top, victorious, 5-4.
Unfortunately, many factors contributed to a mercy rule loss for the Warriors in an 11-2 defeat. This is Jessup's fourth loss in conference play.
A long weekend still awaits the Warriors, as this was only the first two games of a six-game weekend. They will take on OUAZ again tomorrow and Arizona Christian on Saturday afternoon.
