Softball Completes Road Trip In Saturday Sweep

Jessup swept ACU in the final two games of the six-game weekend. Jessup will return home on Tuesday afternoon to play Academy of the Arts.

GLENDALE, Ariz. - The Warriors' long weekend road trip ended in sweeping fashion. On a sunny Saturday afternoon, Jessup defeated the Firestorm of Arizona Christian, winning in both games.

Jessup won game one by a final score of 7-3 and pulled out a comeback win in the seventh inning of game two, 6-5. The Warriors still command the GSAC leaderboard, sitting on top of the standings nearing the end of the second half of conference play.

Earlier in the season, Arizona Christian won game two of a weekend split with Jessup in a nine-inning game. These two wins gave Jessup the upper hand, taking three of the four games played.

Kaylee Winn and Kaitlyn Fanning started the scoring spree early in the first inning to give the Warriors an early lead. Things would stay tight until the offensive breakout for Jessup in the fifth inning.

It would be the bat of Winn again to regain the lead for the Warriors before insurance runs would cross the plate for a more comfortable seat. The four-run fifth inning would solidify win number one of the day for Jessup, 7-3. Solid defense and timely hitting helped starter Katie Blankenheim gather her eleventh win of the season in the circle.

Game two would go to the very end, as the Warriors completed the comeback win in the top of the seventh inning. The Firestorm would strike first and keep their lead for most of the game. ACU would lead 5-2 going into the sixth inning.

Down by three, the offense would come to life as the Warriors passed the bat down the lineup. Jessup would take advantage of the fielding errors by ACU, with a big hit coming from Kaylee Winn to tie the game. Sam Lorge called the game with a single to right field to score Winn and put the Warriors ahead. Serena Navarrete (6-1) commanded the circle late in the game to write it in the win column, 6-5, for the Warriors.

Sarah Giles was intentionally walked eight times in the two games today. Giles was walked in every at-bat against ACU making it a total of 16 intentional walks in the series with the Firestorm.

After a long weekend trip, the Warriors have a quick turnaround with a midweek game on Tuesday at home in a nonconference matchup against Academy of the Arts, 1:00 PM and 3:00 PM. Saturday will complete regular season play as Jessup takes on Menlo College on Senior Day. Game times are 12:00 PM and 2:00 PM.
