McBean Park Record Broken in Sweep of Simpson

Jessup sets a new program record for most home wins in a season; Hall’s sacrifice fly gives the Warriors a game-one walk-off

LINCOLN, Calif. – The Warriors were back inside the friendly walls of McBean Park on Tuesday as they welcomed Simpson for the final home date of the season. Thanks to a pair of comebacks, Jessup pulled off the sweep, as they set a new McBean Park record in the process.

With the double-dose of victory, Jessup improves their record at home to 28-2, establishing a new program record for the most home wins in a season. The old record was set in 2019 when the Warriors went 26-4 at home.

The record-breaking victory would not come without some work, as entering the bottom of the eighth, Jessup trailed 8-4. A Kayde Iranon triple started the rally as two scored, and then Iranon scored on a Brandon Springer single, sending the game to ninth with Simpson on top 8-7.

Jessup tied the game thanks to Bryce Petrilla, as he doubled to center field, plating Trey Furrey. A pinch-running Kevin Gutierrez was held on third on the play, setting up Quinton Hall to win the game with his sacrifice fly.

Hall went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI in the win, while Petrilla went 3-for-5 with a pair of RBI as well. Jessup totaled 13 hits in the win.

The win was awarded to Ryan Stone, as he tossed 0.2 scoreless innings out of the pen. Trevor Arntson made the start, and the senior right-hander produced five innings of work in which he allowed two runs on five hits.

Another comeback was needed in game two, but in this circumstance, Jessup had more time to do so, as they trailed 4-0 in just the second inning. It started with Springer, who picked up two runs on a double to center. Springer kept the momentum going an inning later as he blasted a three-run shot that made it 7-4.

The tying run had scored on another Hall sacrifice fly.

Jessup padded two more runs in the fourth, making it 9-4, but then the big shot came in the sixth as Iranon blasted a grand slam to left-center, making it a 14-4 ballgame.

Starting game two was right-hander Keola Yim. Yim allowed four runs on seven hits across 3.2 innings of work before head coach Trevor Paine went to Evan Williams in relief. Williams then spun four straight outs out of the bullpen in his outing, earning him the win.

Tuesday's sweep moves Jessup to 33-9 on the year. The record for the most wins in a season is 41, set in 2018.

The regular season will wrap up this weekend as the Warriors visit the Bay Area and Menlo College for three games, starting on Friday. Then, it will be off to Irvine for the GSAC Tournament, where Jessup will play as either the No. 2 or No. 3 seed.

Postseason baseball begins on Monday, April 29 from OC Great Park in Irvine.
