Offensive Outburst Ends the Regular Season with Another Sweep

Jessup scored 41 runs across their two games with the Oaks; Lopez drove in nine runs against his former team

ATHERTON, Calif. – The Jessup bats are red hot going into the postseason, as Saturday's regular-season finale saw one of the best offensive performances in program history. In taking both games against the Menlo Oaks, Jessup pilled on 41 runs in their 16 innings on the diamond.

Saturday's offensive display pushes the Warriors to over 10 runs/game on the season, as their 451 runs are 23 shy of the 474 put up by the 2018 team. The Warriors will have at least two more chances to add to their total, as they are locked in at the No. 2 seed in the GSAC Tournament.

The opening game of Saturday's doubleheader saw the Warriors score 23 runs. It's the second time Jessup surpassed 20 in a game this season and it trails only the 26 they put up in Redding earlier this year as the most this season.

Those 23 runs came in large part to a 13-run seventh inning in which the Warriors did so on just six hits. The Warriors managed just 14 hits in their 23-run outing; eight of them went for extra bases.

No player had a bigger game one than former Oak Chris Lopez, as he went 4-for-6 with seven RBI. Lopez mashed two home runs in his old ballpark and added a double as well. Trey Furrey, Bryce Petrilla, and Kayde Iranon also had multiple-hit performances in the win.

Iranon and Brandon Springer also added long balls. For Springer, that made it three games in a row with a home run.

Ryan Stone earned the victory in relief, improving his record to 3-1. Stone tossed two scoreless innings after taking over for Anthony Perez, who went just four frames.

Game two then followed, and it was again an offensive display for the Warriors, as this time they piled on 18 runs in a 14-run victory.

The Warriors got going early, as the first inning saw Petrilla drive in a run with a double, and then Lopez added to his special day with two more RBI on a double of his own. Petrilla later added an RBI triple as he went 2-for-3 in the finale.

A two-run home run by Nate Van Patten continued Jessup's day in the fourth, and then in the fifth, it was Jack Grant who came up big with a three-run double down the left field line. Grant went 2-for-5 with four RBI.

Preston Brook earned the victory in relief after tossing a scoreless inning. Starter Max Moreno allowed three runs on three hits in his three innings of work.

Jessup wraps up the regular season at 36-9 overall and 17-7 in conference action. The Warriors will be the No. 2 seed in the upcoming conference tournament, and they will take on No. 3 seed Arizona Christian in their first contest.

The 2024 GSAC Tournament begins on April 29 from OC Great Park in Irvine, Calif.
