IRVINE, Calif. - The #1 seed Warriors began the GSAC Tournament on a high note, fresh from their regular-season GSAC championship clinche. Jessup defeated #4 seed OUAZ in game one of the championship tournament with a final score of 5-2.
The GSAC release of All-GSAC players was released just this past week, and six Warriors were recognized. Amongst those included Katie Blankenheim, Kaitlyn Fanning, Madisyn Leffle, Maddy Ybarra, and Kaylee Winn. Sarah Giles earned her GSAC Player of the Year title, and Brie Campbell was named GSAC Coach of the Year.
Head coach Brie Campbell added, "This is a very talented team, and so many deserve all-conference allocation. I am so proud of everyone represented on the all-conference ballot; their success is due to hard work and dedication by themselves and their teammates by their sides."
The hot bats of Sarah Giles and Kaylee Winn paved the way offensively, with triples being in nature for the day. Jessup scored two in the first inning with a triple from Giles and a sacrifice fly from Winn. OUAZ would tie the game and pressure the Warrior's offense, as Jessup would not score again until the sixth inning.
Solid defense and a three-run sixth inning would complete the win for Jessup, with RBIs coming from Winn, Giles, and Kaitlyn Fanning. Sarah Giles went 2-for-2 with two triples and two RBIs, her first triples of the year. Kaylee Winn also had two RBIs with a stand-up triple.
Starting pitcher Katie Blankenheim dealt in the circle with seven innings pitched, five strikeouts, two earned runs, allowing seven hits, and securing a postseason win.
"This team is in their element; the big stage is where they excel and feed off the energy, and today wasn't any different," continued Campbell.
The Warriors will play tomorrow at 12:00 PM against Vanguard University, at OC Great Park.
