Late Inning Spark Completes Weekend Sweep

Sam Lorge hits a walk-off home run to complete a comeback victory in game one against Hope International; Maddy Ybarra had a three-home run day and five RBIs

LINCOLN, Calif. - A victorious weekend emerged for the Warriors as they defeated No. 12 Hope International on Saturday afternoon. These wins completed a four-win weekend for the Warriors to complete the weekend sweep.

Jessup now has a record of 27-5 overall and 9-3 in conference play, which puts them at the top of the GSAC standings.

Katie Blankenheim pitched a complete seven innings in the 6-4 comeback win in game one to move to 10-2 on the year. The Royals scored first and kept their lead up until the fourth inning. Maddy Ybarra's hot bat continued as she tied the game with a solo blast to the center.

Hope International capitalized on some Warriors' errors to give them the lead late in the game.

Jessup went into the bottom of the seventh inning down 4-2, looking for a comeback win. That's just what happened, as Kaylee Winn hit a two-run single to tie the game. Sam Lorge would secure the comeback victory with a two-run walk-off home run.

Jessup would come out on top in game one, winning 6-4.

Game two was another back-and-forth competition between the Royals and the Warriors. Maddy Ybarra would again play long ball as she hit two home runs, tallying all four Warrior RBIs. Her three home run days put her at 11 home runs in the year, just two behind leading home run hitter Sarah Giles

Coach Brie Campbell discussed the weekend, "We didn't play up to our potential in the field today, but we are grateful for the timely hitting and execution by important at-bats to make it happen when it mattered most. A big weekend for Ybarra as she continues to see the ball well and not let any spot in the count dictate a negative or a positive before it's over."

Terra Goetz also tossed a complete game, securing her ninth win on the season. "It's been a great year for both Terra and Katie thus far to continue their final senior season quest. They both grinded through close games to keep it small and defended their position well to collect the wins," continued coach Campbell.

Jessup will be on the road next week, traveling to Arizona for a six-game weekend against OUAZ and Arizona Christian.
