ROCKLIN, Calif. – The finale of Jessup's two-match homestand was on the schedule for Thursday as the Warriors played host to Cal Poly Humboldt. Back-to-back goals from the visiting Lumberjacks near halftime proved to be the difference in the match, as Jessup fell by the final of 2-1.

Jessup drops to 0-3-2 in their inaugural Division II season. Defensively, the Warriors have held opponents to two goals per game in each loss.

"It's tough to see with the result, but we had a lot of good moments today," said head coach
Greg Lazaga.

Humboldt connected on their first goal of the afternoon with less than ten seconds remaining in the first half, as Maumausolo Uiagalelei found Ernie Garza, who headed it in. A second goal came seven minutes into the second half when Duke Romanchak made it 2-0.

"The goal against us with three seconds to go was tough," added Lazaga. "A lack of focus and grit in that small time period really cost us."

Two minutes after Humboldt's second tally, Jessup got their break when a one-on-one opportunity saw the Warriors find the back of the net.

On a long ball played by
James Murillo, freshman
Jalen Scott found the back of the net for his third goal of the season. Scott has contributed all of Jessup's goals to start the season, each coming in spectacular fashion.

On Scott's goal, Lazaga noted, "Jalen had another good moment and has been a real threat. His goal got us back in the hunt for the game."

Jessup outshot Humboldt 11-8 in the contest, but it was the Lumberjacks who had more shots on target, with six compared to the Warriors' three on goal.
Isaac Morfin and
Eduardo Guillen put shots on for the Warriors, while Paris Ruiz, Enrique Tiscareno, Seth Uson, and Marcus Abdel-Malek had shots on frame for Humboldt.

Five cautions were issued in the match with four on the Lumberjacks, including Abdul-Malek, Ethan Conaty, Dylan Vega, and Konnor Rowan.
Luis Cruz was handed the sole yellow card for Jessup in the 42nd minute.

Jessup will be back in action next week when they visit UC Santa Cruz for the final contest before PacWest play begins.
