SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - A day in the city resulted in a big victory for the Jessup University Warriors as they secured their first win in the NCAA. A mid-afternoon road contest ended with the Warriors defeating NCAA Pacwest foes Academy of the Art 2-1.
A quick midweek drive to the Bay Area went in Jessup's favor before returning home to home field for a weekend matchup. This is Jessup's first win against an NCAA team and second win on the season so far.
Hannah Olariu put Jessup on the board, scoring on a corner kick that bent across and found the back of the net. This is Olariu's second goal of the season. The goal would remain 1-0 in Jessup's favor going into halftime.
Come the second half, the Academy of the Art would tie the game in the fifty-third minute of the contest. The score would remain tied for most of the second half until the eighty-second minute.
Kaylee Gillespie would score her fourth goal of the season, assisted by
Angela Shannon, to put the Warriors ahead 2-1 and secure their first win in NCAA play.
Jessup will return home for a weekend matchup against Vanguard University, a former NAIA opponent. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. on Warrior Field.
