ROCKLIN, Calif. - On Saturday afternoon, it was an evenly matched game at Warrior Field as Jessup hosted Vanguard in their PacWest Conference home opener, but the visiting Lions came away with a 3-0 win.
Both teams had seven shots in the contest, with Warriors senior Kaylee Gillespie having all three on the frame for Jessup. The Lions had six shots on goal, including three from Alyssa Fong, two from Kaitlyn Currier, and one from Rachel Penick.Â
Currier scored the first goal in the 11th minute before Jena Howard found Penick four minutes later to make it 2-0. Vanguard scored its third goal off of another Currier strike in the 81st minute.
Jessup junior goalkeeper Celeste Fernandez made three saves in the game, matching Vanguard goalie Jordin Holmquist-Wilder. Both teams had two corners in the contest.Â
There were a total of three cautions in the match, including Mackenzie Wright and Mikaela Patterson for Jessup and Kate Kokx for Vanguard.Â
The Warriors will get a chance to improve on their 1-4 home record on Monday when they host UC Santa Cruz at 2 p.m.
