ROCKLIN, Calif. – Jessup welcomed the Banana Slugs of UC Santa Cruz to Warrior Field on Monday for a hard-fought 0-0 draw, as neither team was able to find the back of the net.
The Warriors endured an early onslaught of shots from Banana Slug sophomores Chelyn Ackerman and Cadence Fisher, as both hit the crossbar in the first half. Just one UCSC shot went on frame in the opening 45 minutes, but the point-blank attempt was denied by a kick save from goalkeeper
Lille Aimes, who got the start.
The final shot total at the end of regulation was nearly even, as Jessup totaled ten to Santa Cruz's nine. Both teams had three on goal, as
Abella Waterman,
Kaylee Gillespie, and
Adelaide Mae Smith put shots on for Jessup, while Alex Freeman, Tiana Stouch, and Emily De Los Santos had shots on target for the Banana Slugs.
Jessup's final push came in the closing seconds as a breakaway chance saw a collision in the box between the goalkeeper and
Galaxy Mijares, but the clock had signaled 0:00.
Aimes saved one shot before
Celeste Fernandez was subbed in to make two saves in the final 30 minutes. Ainsley Gove made three saves for Santa Cruz.
Only two cautions were issued in the contest, both on the Warriors, as Gillespie and
Mackenzie Wright were given yellow cards. The Banana Slugs totaled three corners in the game, including two in the second half, while Jessup had just one corner kick that came in the 15th minute.
The draw is the first of the season for Jessup, as they are currently 2-5-1 on the season. The Warriors will host Menlo College on Thursday at 4:30 p.m.
