Weekend Matinee Ends with Jessup Falling to APU

Janssan finished with a 17-point, 13-rebound double-double; Jessup will be back home next weekend against Point Loma

ROCKLIN, Calif. – Jessup returned to Warrior Arena after three straight in the Bay Area, as the second meeting of the season with Azusa Pacific awaited the Warriors. In a game where Azusa took the first lead and never looked back, the Warriors ended the week with a 74-57 defeat.
 
The Warriors now sit at 7-10 overall on the season, with their conference record moving to 4-7. Jessup has now lost four straight.

Forward Aydan Janssan led the charge for Jessup on Saturday, scoring 17 points to pair with 13 rebounds. Janssan also dished out three assists. Other Warriors contributing on the offensive end were Anthony Enoh (13), Tamatoa Humbert (10), and Ja'Maris Blackmon (8).
 
APU scored the first basket of Saturday's contest, a 3-pointer 72 seconds into the game, and then proceeded to hold the lead for the remainder of regulation. In the 38:48 of APU sitting on top, the Cougars saw their lead hit as high as 17, which came on the final basket of regulation with 47 seconds remaining in the contest.
 
The Cougars were led in scoring by Chris Gayles Jr. with 18 points.
 
Jessup connected on 41 percent from the field, with 19 of their 22 field goals coming inside the arc. The Warriors converted on just 3-of-21 from three, competed to an 11-for-32 three-point shooting performance from the Cougars. APU shot 44 percent from the field.
 
Saturday's matchup was the second of the season between the Warriors and the Cougars. The previous meeting saw Jessup force overtime before APU pulled away in the extra period.
 
Jessup now shifts its focus back to the road, as a short road trip to Fresno occurs on Thursday. The Warriors will take on Fresno Pacific before returning home to take on Point Loma on Saturday, February 1.
