Portola, California - This week, the Warriors competed in their fourth tournament of the fall season at Grizzly Ranch Golf Club in Portola, California, competing against Dominican University (CA).
Both teams brought seven men and women to compete in a singles "match play format" match. The story of the morning was the cold. Both teams had to wait over an hour before the scheduled times to play due to a frost delay.
On the men's side, it was a tight battle with the Warriors eventually falling 4-3. Paolo Castenda and Braden Armstrong led the charge, winning both of their matches. Armstrong won his match 4 and 3, while Castenda won 3 and 2.
Nicholas Schultz and Nick Chavarin both had tight matches that went to the 18th hole; each ended in a tie, helping to secure half points. Senior Matthew Shimizu and Freshman Jacobus Brakkee both fell short in their matches.
For the Women's Team, they fell short 1.5 to 5.5. Sharon McFarland delivered the winning point for the Warriors, closing out her opponent 4 and 3. Julianne Canda continued her steady play from the fall season, finishing a tight match on 18 in a tie.
Freshman Natalie Ang's match also concluded on the 18th, and she fell in her match, two down. Prisllia Padilla, Chelsea Wilson, Isabella Dowd, and Ayla Keith all fell short in their singles matches.
Both teams battled, but fell short. For the Men's Team, the JD Cup wraps up their fall season after spending 6 days on the road in Washington, and playing the Chico State event to open the fall. They look forward to the spring, when they open the season at the Fujikara Invitational, hosted by CSU San Marcos, in February.
The Warriors Women's Team looks ahead to two weeks as they conclude their final event of the fall swing, competing in the East Bay Invite at TPC Stonebrae from October 26th to the 28th.
