Warriors Fall to Chico State on the Road

Jessup travels to Cal Poly Humboldt for last non-conference game, November 29th

CHICO, Calif. - The Warriors fought back from an early deficit on Wednesday afternoon but ultimately could not overcome a strong start by Chico State University, falling to the Wildcats 83-64 at Art Acker Gym.

This loss pushes the Warriors to 2-3 overall. Jessup has one more non-conference contest before beginning PacWest play.

The Warriors were led by sophomore Giselle Dogan, who poured in a team-high 17 points on the strength of five made three-pointers. Dogan shot an efficient 6-of-12 from the field and 5-of-9 from beyond the arc in just 21 minutes of action.

Senior forward Raylyn Fergerson achieved a double-double for Jessup, tallying 13 points and grabbing a team-leading 10 rebounds (four offensive, six defensive). Fergerson was also active on the defensive end, adding a block to her stat line. Senior Amari Guiton rounded out the Warriors in double figures, contributing 11 points and five rebounds.

Chico State set the tone in the first quarter, jumping out to a significant lead by outscoring the Warriors 27-10. That early gap proved too large for Jessup to close despite consistent offensive output through the remainder of the game.

Jessup showed fight in the subsequent quarters, posting 18 points in the second and 21 in the fourth. Senior Andheya Aurelio was key to the ball movement, dishing out a team-best four assists, while sophomore Claudia Jimenez added five assists off the bench.

The Warriors displayed strong ball movement, recording 16 total assists on 24 made field goals. However, the Wildcats' overall shooting proved to be the difference, as Chico State shot 47.1% from the field and outrebounded Jessup 49-35. The Warriors finished the contest shooting 34.3% from the floor (24-70) and 30.8% from three-point range (8-26).

Jessup will take on Cal Poly Humboldt on November 29th at 1:00 PM on the road for their last non-conference contest before beginning PacWest play.
