Warriors Split on First Day of Turlock Tournament

Giles hits two home runs on the day; Jessup will continue with two games tomorrow, beginning at 10:30 AM and 6:00 PM.

TURLOCK, Calif. - A Friday morning sparked the first day of the Tournament of Champions for the Warriors in Turlock, California. Jessup took the win in game one against Central Washington, 7-5, and the west coast foes of Chico State in game two, losing 12-2.

Jessup is even on the season so far, with a 4-4 record, with three games remaining in the tournament.

Game one against Central Washington road on a big fifth inning for the Warriors. The Wildcats scored in the first inning to take an early lead on a sacrifice fly to right field. Jessup jumped on a quick response, scoring two in the bottom of the first inning from the hot bat of Sarah Giles. Giles homered to right field to score two and take the lead.

CWU regained the lead at the top of the third inning, but it would be Kylie Nunes with a single up the middle and at the bottom of the fourth to take the lead back.

A big fifth inning for the Warriors would be the game changer with big hits from Madisyn Leffle and a bases-clearing triple from Aaliyah Pineda to pin the victory 7-5.

The pitching combo of Bella MacFarlane and Jazlyn Villavicencio commanded the circle for the Warriors. MacFarlane tallied her third win of the season as freshman Villavicencio got her second save.

Game two came later in the night with a matchup between the Wildcats of Chico State.

Giles hit her second home run of the day, but unfortunately, the Warriors could not capitalize offensively in game two. Jessup would fall to Chico in five innings in a final score of 12-2.

The Warriors will continue their run in the Tournament of Champions as they have two more games tomorrow. They will take on CSU San Bernardino at 10:00 AM and Simon Fraser University at 6:00 PM.
