Day Two Ends in Extra Inning Split

Giles hits her fourth home run in the fourth consecutive game; Jessup concludes the Tournament of Champions tomorrow at noon

TURLOCK, Calif. - Day two is in the books for the Warriors' road trip in Turlock. A twelve-inning win against San Bernardino and a late-inning loss against Simon Frasier ends in a split to conclude the second day of the Tournament of Champions.

Jessup sits even on the year, as they are now 5-for-5 after the split day.

Five extra innings were played in game one of the day as the Warriors secured a win in a 12-inning contest against San Berardino in a final score of 13-8. Seven innings weren't enough for the two teams as the score would be 4-4 after a regulation seven innings played.

The hot bat of Sarah Giles continued in her second at-bat of the game, homering for the third time in three games played on the weekend. Gilles went 3-6 and was a double away from hitting the cycle in game one alone.

The Yotes, however, responded in the bottom of the third inning, taking the lead 3-2. It would be Giles again who brought two more runs across the plate in the top of the fourth to regain the lead once again for Jessup.

The Warriors kept the lead until the sixth inning when the score remained tied for the remainder of regulation play. International tie-breaker rules were enforced for five extra innings of play for both squads.

A tight contest was played by both teams for the extra innings played, but Jessup would capitalize in various ways, including clutch hits, squeeze plays, and throwing errors. A single by Maddy Ybarra to right field to score Neva Adams and Madisyn Leffle would do the final damage, where the Warriors would keep the lead and conclude the game after 12 innings of play.

Yaya Himes threw a gem for the Warriors, pitching ten of the twelve innings played. Bella MacFarlane came in relief, pitching the last two innings to shut down the Yotes and secure the 13-8 victory.

Game two was played under the lights against Simon Frasier of British Columbia, Canada. It would be Sarah Giles again to put the Warriors on top first, going yard again for her fourth consecutive home run in four consecutive games played. Giles is batting .567 and 18 RBIs so far on the season.

Jessup commanded the lead against SFU until a home run from Simon Frasier gave SFU the offensive momentum. The Warriors chipped away, but SFU eventually came out on top, winning 7-4.

Jessup will take on Monterey Bay on the final day of the Tournament of Champions tomorrow at noon.
