SHAWNEE, Okla. — Team Five hit the road this weekend for what is becoming an annual staple on the schedule, a cross country trip against top-tier competition. Beginning the first of four games in Oklahoma, the Warriors hit the mat twice on Saturday, with both contests seeing Jessup come out on the losing end of the scoreboard.
After opening the season with victories against UC Davis and Cal Poly, Jessup now finds themselves at .500, sitting 2-2 on the year.
The excursion to Oklahoma marks the third year in a row for the Warriors to leave California in the regular season. Team Three (2023) was the first to do so when the traveled to Dallas. Team Four (2024) followed suit the following year with a trip to Tempe. The Warriors are now in Oklahoma, the same state that saw them claim their second national championship in 2023.
Jessup began the day taking on Davenport, and that contest saw the Warriors finish on the wrong side of a 19-8 finish. The Davenport match began at 11 a.m. (CT), and the Warriors would then have to wait until 9 p.m. (CT) for their next game against Oklahoma Baptist. The meeting with OBU ending with the Warriors narrowly falling 16-15.
The meeting with OBU was a battle of national champions. Jessup claimed the NAIA championship a year ago, their third in a row, and OBU claimed the Division II championship.
The Warriors will compete two more times on Sunday, starting with Maryville and ending with Oklahoma State.
