Comeback Bid Falls Short in Overtime

Jessup battled back from a 17-point first-half deficit; Two more games remain in Jessup’s first Division II season

ROCKLIN, Calif. – A 17-point hole was wiped away on Thursday as the Warriors forced overtime in front of a standing-room-only Warrior Arena. In the end, the comeback bid came up a little short, as Concordia left Rocklin with a 69-65 victory.

With two games to go in Jessup's first Division II season, the Warriors sit 8-16 overall.

The first half of Thursday's contest was one the Warriors will want to forget, as Concordia forged a 17-point lead with 5:33 remaining in the half. The lead was set up by an 11-0 run by the Golden Eagles, as they ultimately took a 39-28 lead into the intermission.

But there was no quit in the Warriors, who performed in front of the largest crowd Warrior Arena has seen this season.

A 9-0 Jessup run in the second half paved the way for a momentum swing, as the Warriors cut Concordia's lead to two on a Cayden McDaniel layup with 4:07 remaining and then proceeded to level the score at 59 on a Wyatt Studer layup the following possession after Tamatoa Humbert blocked a Concordia shot.

Deadlocked at 61, the game moved to overtime.

Jessup took a one-point lead early in the extra period thanks to a layup from Aydan Janssan, and after Concordia countered on the opposite end, Janssan fired back with another layup. Concordia hit a three with 1:20 to go, placing them ahead by two, and after a series of misses, Jessup had a chance to tie or win the game on the final possession. A 3-pointer by Janssan went offline.

McDaniel led the way with 21 points on 7-of-14 from the field, while Janssan followed him with 17 points on 8-of-12. Janssan also led the team with 13 rebounds.

Concordia was led by a 20-point performance by Kaden Minter.

The penultimate game of the season will see the Warriors host Hawaii Hilo on Saturday afternoon as the Vulcans make their first appearance to Rocklin. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m.

Jessup will round out the season on March 1 when Fresno Pacific comes to town for Senior Day.
