Down to the Wire Finish Sees Jessup Fall to HPU

Jessup had a chance to tie the game at the line with 4.4 seconds remaining; The Warriors visit Chaminade on Saturday

HONOLULU, Hawaii – Jessup began their week in Hawaii on Thursday by visiting Hawaii Pacific in Honolulu. In a game that came down to the final possession, Jessup ended the night on the wrong side of a 68-66 final.

Jessup, now 7-13 on the season, sees their PacWest record fall to 4-10. The Warriors have two more chances to pick up a win on the road, as their record away from Warrior Arena now sits at 0-10.

The Warriors will get those chances on Saturday and Monday.

Jessup took the lead into the locker room on Thursday night, holding a narrow 26-22 advantage, but the home standing Sharks retook the lead in the second. In a close game throughout, the contest came down to the final minute, as Jessup had a chance to force overtime.

Trailing by three, the Warriors saw a chance to level the score come when guard Tamatoa Humbert was fouled on a three-point attempt with 4.4 seconds showing on the clock. Humbert made the first free throw attempt, missed the second, and then made the third, putting Jessup in a position to foul.

HPU went 1-for-2 on their subsequent trip to the line, but a heave from beyond half-court at the final horn came up short.

The Warriors ended the day shooting 82 percent as a team at the line. From the field, Jessup connected on 46 percent.

Humbert led the scoring with 17 points on 5-of-9 from the field. He finished the day with just the one miss at the charity stripe, closing the evening 4-for-5. He also added four rebounds.

Aydan Janssan pieced together another double-double, as the Australian closed the game with 11 points to pair with ten rebounds. His final board came on the HPU missed free throw with three seconds remaining. Anthony Enoh also scored 11.

The Sharks were led by Avi Halpert whose 19 points came on 6-of-10 from the field. He was one of four players to finish in double-figures for HPU.

Jessup will return to the court on Saturday when they take on Chaminade. The trip will end with a visit to Hawaii Hilo on Monday evening.
