ROCKLIN, Calif. – Jessup fans were treated to something they had never seen before, as on Friday afternoon, the Warriors picked up their first-ever home victory. Led by a 21-kill performance by
Jan Lopuch, the first-year program is now 3-2 on the year.
The win avenges a loss to Menlo College earlier in the season in which the Oaks swept Jessup in Atherton. This is the last scheduled match between Jessup and Menlo this season.
Jessup got off to a slow start, dropping the first set 25-15, their fourth lost set in a row on Horton Court. But then things began to flip as the Warriors claimed victory in the second with a 25-22 scoreline, evening the bout at 1-1.
Another 25-22 win in the second put the Warriors on top 2-1, placing themselves a set away from the win.
There would not be a third straight set by the 25-22 final, as in the fourth, it was a 25-17 decision in favor of Jessup to ice the game. The Warriors scored the final two points, with Lopuch picking up match point.
Lopuch's 21 kills came on a .410 hitting performance.
Chase Schwab added to the Jessup attack with eight kills.
Logan Marks and
Carter Depue each contributed four.
Taylor Marks set up the offense with 32 assists, while he and Lopuch led with seven digs each.
Schwab led at the net with six blocks.
Owen Henning was part of four.
The Warriors now head back to the road, as up next is a trip to UC Merced on February 12. Jessup will follow that up with a trip to CSU Northridge on February 14.
