SONOMA, Calif. - The Warriors' big bats soared them to a two-win day as they began their weekend road trip in Sonoma County. The offense proved evident in a Friday doubleheader. Jessup took on the Seawolves of Sonoma State, winning both games, 10-1 and 8-2.
As the season starts to heat up, the Warriors are now 3-1, with two more games set to play tomorrow at San Francisco State University.
Game one was won by the Warriors in just six innings, as the run rule was enforced, with a final score of 10-1.
Head Coach Brie Campbell commented on day one of the weekend, "From the top to bottom, it was a team effort offensively as the ladies were able to execute in bringing runners in and pass the bat. Today was a great start to the weekend ahead."
Freshman Alexandria Himes commanded the circle, tossing five of the six innings. Himes only allowed three hits, one walk, and one run allowed. Freshman Jazlyn Villavicencio closed the game so the Warriors could secure victory in game one.
The defense was lights out behind a good offensive push, keeping Jessup's pitch count low with quick bottom-half innings.
Campbell continued, "Defensively, we fed off the offensive surge, keeping our pitches to a minimum while having a supportive defense behind the circle."
The Warriors passed the bat up and down the lineup, tallying 13 hits and 10 runs in game one. Maddy Ybarra (4), Sarah Giles (3), and Neva Adams (1) brought the runs across the plate for the Warriors, with Ybarra hitting her first home run of the season.
Jessup didn't let up in game two, winning 8-2 with seven hits and eight runs. Maddy Ybarra would find the long ball again as she hit her second homerun run of the day. Olivia Dominguez launched a ball over the right field fence to mark her first-ever career home run.
Overall, Jessup outscored Sonoma 18-to-3 and tallied nine stolen bases.
Bella MacFarlane started game two, pitching five innings, with Villavicencio closing out the last two innings to complete the double victory.
Jessup will continue their road trip and make their way to the Bay Area to take on San Francisco State University for doubleheader action tomorrow at 12:00 PM and 2:00 PM.
