LINCOLN, Calif. – In a game that had eight batters hit by a pitch and many more droplets of water, Jessup emerged from the downpour with a 10-5 win over Hawaii Pacific to start their four-game series on a high note.
Much of the action took place early as the visiting Sharks put up three in the first, including a two-run shot by Bronson Rivera and an RBI single by Noah Blythe. The Warriors answered right back in the bottom, putting up a five-spot that featured a two-RBI double by
Drew Andrews.
The Sharks tied it 5-5 with runs in both the third and the fourth, but their offense stopped when
Jake Morell entered the game as the junior didn't allow a single hit while striking out three in 2.1 innings of work.
Morrel earned the victory, moving him to 1-1 on the season.
The rain started to fall at McBean Stadium midway through the game, but that didn't stop Jessup's bats as they scored in both the fifth and the sixth before putting up three insurance runs in the seventh.
Nick Poss hit an RBI double, while
Cody Antone brought one home with a single.
Hawaii Pacific left 12 runners on base on Wednesday evening, including three in both the sixth and the eighth innings.
Nolan Thebiay closed things out for the Warriors with five strikeouts in two innings, improving Jessup to 16-6 and 13-4 in the PacWest Conference.
Three Warriors ended the game with multiple hits: Poss (2),
Tony Otis (2), and
Rudy Rodriguez (2). Andrews led the squad with two RBI.
Jessup is now 16-6 on the season with their record in conference play sitting at 13-4.
Games two and three of the series will take place tomorrow back in Lincoln, with the first of the doubleheader scheduled for 3 p.m.
