Warriors Sweep in Non-Conference Showdown

Ybarra hits her second grand slam of the season; Warriors head to SoCal for conference matchups with Azusa and Concordia this weekend

LINCOLN, Calif. – A long-awaited home matchup was played at Foskett Regional Park for a non-conference midweek contest with the Wolves of Western Oregon. Jessup swept the day, winning game one by 13-9 and the second game by 5-3.

These non-conference games moved the Warriors to an overall record of 18-14, and they are sitting in fourth place in the PacWest conference standings.

The Wolves capitalized in inning one, taking a 3-0 lead over the Warriors to begin game one. Western Oregon would continue to add to its lead, running five across the plate to take a 5-0 lead going into the second.

Jessup chipped away with multiple Warriors tallying RBIs to tie the game 5-5, including Rebekah Beasley, Maddy Ybarra, Olivia Dominguez, and Sarah Giles. The Wolves tagged on another run, but the bats of Malia Ishii and Beasley would again regain the lead for the Warriors.

The big bat of Ybrarra would bust the game wide open for Jessup with a grand slam in the third inning. This is Ybarra's second granny of the year.

The Warriors continued to put runs across the board and win game one with a final score of 13-9. The pitching duo of Alexandria Himes and Bella MacFarlane commanded the circle for the Warriors in game one.

Freshman Jazlyn Villavicencio started on the mound for game two, tossing all seven innings for the Warriors with three strikeouts and only allowing three across the board for the visiting Wolves.

Sarah Giles began the scoring for the Warriors, scoring Leffle on a single to right to put Jessup on top early. The Wolves would eventually tie the game 2-2 in the third, but it would be Giles again to put Jessup back on top with a two-run single to right. Giles tallied three RBIs in the second game of the Tuesday matchup.

Freshman Lili Deanda added an insurance run for the Warriors in a one-run single to center in the fifth to solidify win number two of the day with a final score of 5-3.

The Warriors look to have a busy weekend in PacWest play. They travel to SoCal to take on Azusa Pacific and Concordia Irvine for an eight-game stretch.
